A Fun Classification Activity for Young Learners
What Does Classification Mean?
Classification is another name for organizing things. The children shown are helping me test one of my activities about classification. I wanted to know if very young kids could do a simple classification activity.
The kids were instructed to find as many crayons as possible. Tyler is collecting blue crayons and Krista is collecting purple crayons.
The entire box of 120 crayons were dumped into one pile. Both children sorted through the pile to find all the different shades of their assigned color.
I am pleased with how engaged the kids were as well as the number of crayons they each selected.
Krista decided to count her crayons. Great IDEA!
The activity can be used to reinforce or teach:
1. classification (grouping)
2. color identification
3. counting
But even more important, t
his classification activity associates science with HAVING FUN!!!!
Even though it was not a contest, after counting her crayons, Krysta is obviously the self-pronounced WINNER!!!
