Why does my tongue hurt when I eat fresh pineapple?
Answer:
Fresh pineapple contains bromelain, which is mixture of two protein-digesting chemicals. Your tongue, and lips as well as the tissue inside your mouth is made of protein which the bromelain can and does digest. YIKES!
