“Black Light” seems to be an erroneous name because when a bl
ack light is turned on in a dark room, everything is bathed in a beautiful purple color. Well, not everything looks purples. For example, the scorpion shown in this picture appears blue or maybe blue-green.
A “black light” gives off two kinds of light:
1. visible light that has a purple color
2. ultraviolet A (UVA) light that is invisible Note: UVA is less harmful than is UVB.
What you see glowing under a black light are phosphors. That means that the scorpion in the photo has phospors but the rocks it is climbing on do not have phosphors.
So, what are phosphors?
Why do the glow under a black light?
