How many Alkaseltzer tablets can dissolve in water?
Facts to Consider:
- AlkaSeltzer + water produces water + salt + carbon dioxide gas
- The carbon dioxide gas escapes leaving the salt dissolved in the water, this is called a salt solution.
- Saturated Salt Solution = A solution made by adding salt to water until no more salt will dissolve in the water. The undissolved salt sinks to the bottom of the solution.
- When the salt produced starts to settle on the bottom of the container, it indicates that no additional AlkaSeltzer tables will dissolve in the water.
The question from Anthony and Glynnis is interesting. One thing that we must consider is the amount of water being used. Also to be considered is the type of water being used. Tap water is not the same everywhere.
Discover for Yourself
Fill a see-through plastic glass about half full with water, and then start add one AlkaSeltzer tablet to the water. When the fizzing stops, check the bottom of the glass for any undissolved salt. If there is no salt settled to the bottom, repeat the procedure by adding a second tablet.
