A Talking Tiger Tail

talking-tiger-tail11Body language is one way that animals communicate with each other.  For example, tigers communicate by the  position as well as the motion of their tails. You can model the “talking tail” of a tiger using a ruler.

1. As in the diagram above, in an upright position and slowly shaken back and forth, the ruler represents the motion of a tiger’s tail when the animal is sending out the message, “Hi, want to be friends?”

2. The ruler held to talking-tiger-tail22the side and shaken quickly from side to side represents the motion of a tiger’s tail when it is excited.

3. Hold the ruler in a slightly downward position as shown, and then slightly shake the ruler back and forth. A tiger’s tail in this position and with this motion, the tiger  is saying, “Beware!” talking-tiger-tail31big-book-of-play-and-find-out2
