Notes from Janice’s Desk
Writing about air pressure reminds me of bumper cars at an amusement part in Germany. It was one those traveling groups who had set up their rides in a field. There were no rules, and American soldiers from a nearby Army base were demonstrating how not to drive the cars.
It was all in fun and spectators were most entertained. A sign –Ride at Your Own Risk!–should have been posted. I now wish I had a video of the event. It was the perfect example of many science terms, such as collision, pressure, momentum and PAIN!
At the moment of collision, the men thrust their bodies forward often resulting in the driver of the target car being thrown out. They all laughed, even the driver who scurried to get back into his car so he wouldn’t be a hit-n-run victim.
