Archeology

By Janice VanCleave

pile-upNotes from Janice’s Desk

Archeology is the study of  human culture by analyzing stuff that people left behind. Junk from garbage dumps of the past are treasured artifacts today. From these finding, scientists piece together how they think the people lived, worked, and played.

I wonder what archaeologists in the far future will find in today’s garbage? I also wonder if they will think where I live was a community garbage dump? am not only a pack rat, I become obsessed when I find a real sale. You know the kind after a holiday when the store want to get rid of stuff. I don’t buy a few things–I round up the manager and play “Let’s Make A Deal.” No I didn’t need the 300 plastic Halloween Trick-or-Treat bags, but for 5 cents each, I couldn’t pass up the deal. I gave those bags to many different organizations. So, I had fun bargaining for them, and then had fun for several years giving them away. While I enjoy holidays, I really look forward the final after holiday sales. I still have rolls of Christmas wrapping paper purchased 6 years ago. I happened upon this bargain. Packages of 4 large rolls were sold for 10 cents, and there were few shoppers in the area. This resulted in there being only a few things on the shelf when I left. WOW! My adrenalin level increased just thinking about these marvelous sales. See what happens when I turn my brain lose–let me reign it back in and tell you about a great archeology program tomorrow. It is must see on PBS about a group of archaeologists called Time Team America. For specifics see TIME TEAM AMERICA.
