Adaptive Survival Characteristics

Frogs are amphibians, which are cold-blooded. In other words, the body temperature of amphibians change with the temperature of their surroundings.

When temperatures start to drop, some frogs burrow down in the mud at the bottom of ponds. Here the frogs hibernate–remain completely still and barely breathing. While hibernating, frogs have a very slow respiration rate, but they continue to absorb oxygen and water through their skin.
