Physical properties describe the characteristics of a substance or any bit of matter. There are two types of physical properties:
One type of physical property DOES NOT depend on the amount of matter present. These include color, texture,shape, smell, state of matter (solid, liquid, and gas), sound, and taste.
A second type of physical property Does depend on the amount of matter. These include, size, mass, weight, volume, and density.
One important thing about physical properties is that you can change the physical property of a substance or object but the substance or object retains its identity. For example, if a piece of gold is pounded into different shapes, the characteristics of the gold changes but it is still gold.
