Rice-Paddy Art

With only three different colors of rice plants, some rice farmers in Japan are creating large murals by planting three different colors of rice plants. This idea started in 1993 and has become one of the “you must see this” tourist attractions in Japan. From ground level, the acres of colored plants are not very impressive. As shown in the picture, when side by side, the plants look like–well they look like different colored plants all mixed up. rice-paddy-art1

But, an aerial view of the fields allows you to see the “Big Picture.” The video below shows you the results of strategic planting of hundreds of thousands of rice plants.
